Culturally Responsive Teaching
Within my years here at Fairmont State I have experience Culturally Responsive teaching in a couple of ways within the Art department. Every semester we hold many different shows and senior exhibitions that display to the community what is taking place within Wallman Hall. There is one class in particular that stands out to me, Gallery Management. This class teaches you the basic steps to running a gallery. It also gets students working together and as a team. Working within the gallery gives you many opportunities to connect with the community and reach out to the people. It also is a great way to display the students within the community work and help them as artists get their work noticed. In the "Principles for Culturally Responsive Teaching" online article is talks about role playing strategies and this is exactly what we are going in the gallery management class. Everything we do in that class is exactly how a real gallery that makes profits would run.
